Can I lend my car?

So you've got a car, what now...

Firstly, thank you for clicking and showing an interest in inspiring the next generation of classic car owners. Borrow a Classic is founded on generosity and trust. We believe in a strong and open relationship rooted in honesty and trust and with the help of our sponsors we are able to safeguard both you, your car and the borrower. Lending your car is a simple process and you have full control throughout. It all starts with a conversation to find out about you, your car and any limitations or requirements you may have. We have people that don't care where their car goes or what its used for and others who prefer the car is kept local to them for mentoring and support. Both ways are absolutely fine and we can tailor the requirements to suit you. We will advertise the car on the website and social media and generate a list of potential candidates. The choice is then yours. You choose who gets loaned your car and whilst we are involved throughout, we encourage you to have as much control over the selection process as you'd like.

Does it cost me anything?

Absolutely not! All we ask is that the car is lent in a roadworthy condition. For cars that require an MOT, we ask that this is carried out prior to lending the car. For cars that are MOT exempt we simply ask that you check the car over and ensure it is in a safe condition. Unfortunately we are not able to take 'project cars' for borrowers to fix up.

Does it ever go wrong?

Remember we said that this relationship is built on trust and honesty... well, here goes... Yes, sometimes things don't quite go as planned. As we all know, classics can be temperamental brutes at times, and we've had everything from cracked cast iron blocks to the fan from a Model A Phaeton jettisoning itself through the bonnet. Put simply, things happen. We are always on hand to assist where needed but we strongly encourage good communication between you and the borrower throughout.

What about maintenance?

We encourage borrowers to get as hands on as possible. After all this is designed to give them a realistic experience of owning a classic, remember that Phaeton.. yeah, that. Servicing and maintenance is just as much a part of having a classic as driving it, so if you're happy to mentor your borrower through maintenance and servicing then we are overjoyed. If you'd like it back to service it half way through the loan period, this is absolutely fine and can be arranged too. Remember, throughout it all, you are in control. You're not lost!

We proudly announced at the FBHVC Expo on the 18th of January 2025 that the CCLP (Classic Car Loan Project) has rebranded to 'Borrow a Classic'. You have been redirected here intentionally. So sit back, relax and take a look around. We would like to thank everyone who has supported the CCLP for the previous 8 years and we look forward to having your support as we move into this exciting new chapter.
